Bloomington Man Sentenced for Attacking Student
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- A McLean County judge has sentenced a Bloomington man to 14 years in prison after he was found guilty of criminally assaulting a university student in 2009.

In handing down the sentence Friday to 26-year-old Corvell Caldwell, Circuit Court Judge Robert Freitag gave him 30 days to appeal it. Caldwell's attorney told The (Bloomington) Pantagraph he plans to appeal

Caldwell was convicted Oct. 7 in his second trial for the August 2009 attack. A jury failed to reach a verdict in his first trial an earlier trial.

Prosecutors say Caldwell gave the Illinois State University student a ride home, drugged him, and assaulted him while he was unconscious.

During the trial, jurors heard a statement submitted for another ISU student who said Caldwell had earlier dugged and attacked him.
