Fire Damages Homes and a Camper
Galesburg Fire Department officials say an early morning blaze heavily damaged a home and a camper, and also caused some damage to a home next it.

Fire Investigator Mike Whitson says crews were called to 1457 Williams Street around midnight Friday morning to find a camper fully engulfed in flames, and that the blaze had spread to the home the camper was parked in the driveway of.

Whitson says it is believed the home's owner was living in the camper while rehabbing the home, and that the fire likely started in either a portable heater used in the camper, or in a stove.

Whitson says the home's owner tried to re-enter the camper to rescue a dog, suffered minor injuries, and was treated and released from a local hospital.

The dog lost its life.

Damage estimates are unavailable, but Whitson says the blaze is being ruled an accident. Crews took less than an hour to put the blaze out, but spent most of the morning hours on the scene investigating and putting out hot spots.
