Congressman-Elect Hoping to Make Big Washington Impact
The man who unseated an incumbent Congressman in the November Election for the seat that represents most of Knox County is looking for some pretty important work to do when he gets to Washington next month.

17th District Republican Bobby Schilling says he hopes to gain some key committee assignments after being sworn in.

Schilling says he's going to, in his words, "shoot high," with the committees he wants, including one committee that's nearly a long-shot.

"What I'm gonna shoot for, number one pick is appropriations, which is a very difficult for a freshman to get on but because of my background they seem to think I might have an opportunity. And then from there I will go to ag, small business, there are several different categories but ag would be the top one because we have so much of it in our district."

Schilling, in a debate prior to the November election, said he's opposed to "cap and trade." He calls it another tax, and feels it will ultimately hurt farmers.

Schilling defeated Democrat incumbent Phil Hare and Green Party candidate Roger Davis in November, and will take his oath in January. He says all ten of his children will be there.
