Tax Hike Could Come Sonner Rather Than Later
(IRN)-Illinois' governor continues to push for an income tax increase and is hinting that it could come sooner rather than later.

For months Governor Pat Quinn, has called on lawmakers to approve an income tax increase. It was one the main themes of his campaign for election.

But now, with the election over and Quinn safely in office, he won't call it an income tax increase but instead a revenue package.

Some lawmakers say cash could come into state coffers with a gambling expansion, but Quinn expects that to fail. So if it's not gambling and mums the word on an income tax hike, what's the plan?

"We're working on a plan that will make sure that the bills that the state owes get paid promptly and then we also want to make sure that we invest in important things like education," Quinn said.

So back to the income tax hike, which Quinn has repeatedly said would be used for education. Is there support?

"I think a lot of legislators understand that it's time to roll up their sleeves and take on tough and stern challenges," Quinn said.
