City Council Tax Levy Debate to Start Again
The Galesburg City Council either could, or couldn't, vote on a property tax levy and a city budget Monday.

After agreeing to table both last week after an apparent deal on a property tax levy failed, the city council will hold the first of three special meetings on the matter Monday night.

An agreement that was apparently reached at one point to allow for a vote on a property tax levy rate that could have raised property tax bills, on average, 17 to 20 dollars failed when it was voted on. A levy rate equal to last year also failed.

So the discussion will continue Monday night. It's not clear what will happen. Meetings are also scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday this week, but either of those may not happen if a consensus is reached. Some aldermen have said they hoped the extra meetings aren't needed.

At any rate, aldermen will meet at 5:30 Monday evening in council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
