Tax Levy Tops School Board Agenda
The Galesburg School Board will have something in common with the Galesburg City Council Monday night.

Both entities are scheduled to have meetings, and both will discuss the proposed 2011 property tax levy request.

But in the case of District-205, there's a lot less drama. Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill has said the district's 16-million dollar levy request is virtually the same as last year. And, because of a decline in property values, Cahill believes the average property tax bill could take a slight decrease as well.

Most of the improvements in the District's 110-million dollar Master Facilities Plan are not being paid for with general tax monies. A penny sales tax increase along with bonds being issued will bankroll most of it.

The Galesburg School Board Monday will also honor the Jack Larson Shoes project, and they'll consider pay increases for support staff members similar to those that were given to the district's teachers under the new contract approved last month.

The District-205 Board meets at seven o'clock Monday evening at Lincoln School.
