Altona Man Sentenced in State Meth Case
An Altona man will be in prison for the better part of 14 years after getting sentenced on state methamphetamine charges, but that sentence could grow.

29-year old Richard Pinkowski was sentenced this week in Knox Count Circuit Court on charges of Aggravated Participation of Methamphetamine Production.

Pinkowski was first arrested in October of 2010 at the Galesburg Country Inn and Suites. Police reports from the time indicate that officers were called to the motel after a desk clerk allegedly saw Pinkowski and a woman carrying items underneath their clothes.

Police searched the room and found suspected meth-making materials. They also allegedly found more such items in a car parked at the hotel, and in a nearby soybean field.

Pinkowski is currently awaiting trial on federal methamphetamine charges as well. He was one of over a dozen people from the area recently indicted by a federal grand jury as part of the so-called "Operation Saddle-Up" investigation into meth.

He's scheduled for a pre-trial hearing in February, and a possible trial in mid-February. A judge this week ruled that any sentence Pinkowski receives if he's found guilty in that case, will be served concurrently to the state case.
