Renewing Library Building Plans
The Galesburg Public Library Board's Building Committee is starting over in some respects in trying to figure out how and where a new library should be built.

The committee met Tuesday night with three city leaders, including Mayor Sal Garza, and came to the conclusion that they need a real estate agent, and the city's help.

Committee member Mike Kroll says the city can help the library by helping to obtain properties along West Main Street so a library can be built there.

"One of parcels already belongs to the city, there's a vacant lot on Academy," Kroll said. "The hotel parcel is up in the air, and I don't think there's any benefit to us contacting the hotel folks at all, until the legal proceedings are done there."

The old Super 8 is currently tied up in the legal system as mentioned, but the city seemed interested in at least considering giving the property to the library if and when that happens.

The board also asked for help demolishing any of 15 other properties in that area the library wants to obtain, in hopes that it will cost the library less.

Primarily donations so far are being raised for the building of a new library.
