ADM To Stay in Galesburg in Lesser Capacity
FIRST REPORTED 5:30am 12/23/11 Galesburg will only be without Decatur-based Archer Daniels Midland for the better part of a year.

That's because the grain processor issued a statement Thursday indicating that they will turn its oilseed processing facility in Galesburg on South Henderson Street, into a grain elevator by July of 2012.

ADM shuttered its Galesburg facility last August, putting 31 people out of work. The company says five of those will be brought back to operate the grain elevator, if they're interested in coming back.

The city and ADM engaged in talks soon thereafter to try and get the company to either change its mind or figure out how to best re-use the plant. And ADM Vice President for Grain River Terminals Doug Johns says in a press release that the company appreciates the patience of the city and Mayor Sal Garza as the company figured out what to do.

The facility is located next to the former Butler Manufacturing plant. Around 1,000,000 bushels of grain can be stored at the plant, with the capacity for some additional temporary storage if needed.
