Unemployment Declines in the Area
Unemployment rates are back on their downward trend in the area after a month of increases.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security has provided local unemployment numbers for November, which indicate that the Knox County jobless average now sits at eight-points-three percent, three-tenths of a percent lower than October.

In Galesburg alone, the unemployment rate sits at eight-point-seven percent, down seven-tenths from the month before.

With a Warren County jobless average that dropped two-tenths to seven-point-two percent, that now puts the state's calculated Galesburg-area unemployment average at an even eight-percent.

Most other unemployment rates went down as well, as the state says declines were seen in nine of 12 metropolitan areas.

The only area county to see an unemployment rate increase was Henry County. Their jobless figure went up one-tenths of a percent to seven-point-one percent.

Even so, the state says both Henry and McDonough Counties have some of the lowest unemployment averages in the state.

The state's November unemployment rate went down to nine-point-four percent from nine-point-five. The national unemployment average is at eight-point-two percent for November, down from eight-point-five.
