City Crews Ready for Winter
To hear the Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Galesburg tell it, it's not exactly breaking his heart we really haven't felt winter yet.

Jim Cordle says it's just fine with him that outside of some slippery weather yesterday, winter has, to borrow a term, come in like a lamb.

But nevertheless, Cordle tells the WGIL Morning News when it's time for real snowfall, the city's plows and their crews will be ready -- even with a certain big overpass construction project going on.

"We're going to split it up there on both sides of the bridge," he said. "Had a discussion with the guys prior and everyone knows how it's going to work out. We got crews that are going to go in there, clean all the driveways of adjoining businesses, so there's no delays getting through there."

"You'll still be able to drive through there, through Maple Avenue, it's going to be kept clean, and will be open all the time."

Cordle says so far, the city is being saved money by not having to plow so much yet -- both in terms of labor, and in terms of the salt and geo-melt liquid substance the city uses.

He says in the meantime, there are other things his crews can work on until the snow really starts to fly.
