Knoxville School Officials Looking into Certified Librarian
Hiring a certified librarian for District 202 may have put any other library upgrades on the back burner in Knoxville schools.

Superintendent Steve Wilder says after having library representatives from Illinois State University visit Knoxville's school libraries, their primary concern was there wasn't a certified librarian.

He says this position would oversee the entire operation at each school while professionally developing aides. Wilder says their recommendation was to get someone in sooner rather than later. He agrees.

"Any significant work that's going to be done in the libraries, if we're going to move forward with that, I think the first decision we need to make is wheter we going to hire a certified librarian," he said. "If that's something we're going to do I recommend we put everything else on hold for the most part, can "

"Although there are some small things things we can have the aides do now, and so that person, if we hire that person, can oversee."

Wilder says he want's to, quote, "do it right the first time," with this position.

He says it doesn't have to be a money pit, but the district needs to be willing to dedicate the resources. Wilder says he will investigate how a certified librarian's salary will affect the budget by the next board meeting.
