State Senator Pulls Out of Congressional Race
Peoria State Senator Dave Koehler says the experience has been good, but the call of Springfield is stronger than the call of Washington.

Koehler Friday dropped out of the Democratic primary for the 17th District congressional seat currently held by Republican Bobby Schilling.

The Schilling campaign in a press release described the departure as "One liberal down, Four more to go."

But, in reality, Koehler's withdrawl is the second of the campaign, following former State Representative Mike Boland's dropping out not long after entering the race.

Koehler says in his own press release that Illinois has always been more important to him than Washington, and it's only recently become clear that he can make the most positive change, in his words, by staying in the Senate.

Koehler plans on running again for his 46th State Senate seat.

Four Democrats remain in the primary, including Augustana College executive Greg Aguilar, Quad Cities Attorney Eric Reyes, former newspaper reporter Cheri Bustos, and Freeport Mayor George Galurapp.

Most of the candidates, so far, have not yet made appearances in Galesburg.
