Knox County United Way: 88% of Goal, 1 Day Before Deadline
They're more than $40,000 short of their goal, at 88%, and the deadline's Saturday.

The United Way of Knox County set their sights on raising $360,000 for 2012 Campaign, $10,000 more than the previous year.

Executive Director Ann Tucker says the agency is frantically working the phones for donations to meet the goal. She tells WGIL any contribution would be greatly appreciated by all of Knox County.

"Obviously, the United Way is the best investment that you can make in your community," Tucker said. "You're not investing in United Way; you're investing in our partner agencies. We support currently 29 programs at 23 different agencies. So, you're helping individuals from infancy, through adulthood, into the elderly years."

Tucker says if the United Way is unable to meet their $360,000 goal, there's a chance the board of directors may extend the deadline by a couple of weeks.

She says the board was aggressive in raising this year's goal because of the tremendous need for the funded services.

Tuckers says the United Way met the $350,000 goal last year by "the skin of their teeth."
