Budget and Money Items Dominate City Council Agenda
A lot of items related to money will dominate the Galesburg City Council meeting Monday night.

Aldermen Monday evening will discuss one last time and vote on the Fiscal Year 2012 Budget.

As part of that as well, aldermen will consider the 2011 property tax levy request. Aldermen favored a property tax levy hike that would help reduce the city's structural budget deficit, while giving the Galesburg Public Library and pension funds more money.

Aldermen Monday will also discuss whether or not the money won in the Readers Digest "We Hear You America" contest will indeed go to the Galesburg Community Foundation into an endowment being set up to that end.

The city and the Foundation want to use the money for youth and other programs. The city won 25-thousand dollars, and the city would contribute another 25-thousand.

Aldermen will also vote on Aldermen Wayne Allen's proposal that the city's Neighborhood Enhancement Division be eliminated, even though the city administration formally recommends against it.

The City Council will also give out the annual Adult Service to Youth Award at Monday evening's council meeting, starting at 6:30 inside Council Chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
