Plea Deals Reached in Kiwanis Park Murder
Two more of the people allegedly involved in the fatal shooting at Kiwanis Park over the summer have pleaded guilty.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate that both 18-year old Michael Garrett and 24-year old Albert Carter both pleaded guilty Monday to charges of Obstruction of Justice. In exchange, charges against both of them including First-Degree Murder Accountability and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm Accountability have been dismissed.

Carter, Garrett, and four others allegedly went to Kiwanis Park in late-June, where they shot 21-year old Jemell Ware during a dispute. Ware was later pronounced dead at a Galesburg hospital.

The two along with a 16-year old boy and 21-year old Kareem Dixon have also pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice charges, with their more serious murder-related charges also being dropped as part of plea deals.

Garrett and Carter will both be sentenced February 15th. They could face as much as three-years in prison.

Another man who faced similar charges, 19-year old Michael Fisher, remains jailed in the case. The alleged triggerman, 46-year old Overton Fisher, is also jailed, on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
