Master Facilities Committee in Living Color
Color schemes were one of the focuses of a meeting Thursday of the Galesburg School District's Master Facilities Plan Committee.

The committee Thursday looked primarily at some of the classroom improvements to be made at Lombard Middle School as part of the first phase of the 110-million dollar plan, but they also looked at carpeting.

Specifically, color schemes. Architect PSA Dewberry wanted the committee to think about having uniform colors of paint and carpet in all district schools as they're renovated, with perhaps separate color palettes for individual schools to be used, too.

Committee member Mike Kroll says to him, that's important, so the schools can have individual identities.

"I don't think we want every school to look like every McDonald's," he said. "So you want the middle of the road, which compromises between Roger having 55 different colors of carpets, but still allows schools to have their own personality, I think makes a lot of sense."

Among Lombard improvements, architects say, will be updates to the library and reception areas, along with carpeted classrooms, storage space, new mechanical equipment, air conditioning, floors, and other items.

The color scheme will be back before the Master Facilities Committee later this month, and will likely be brought before the full school board in January.
