Monmouth College Fight Leads to Felony Ear Biting
Two Monmouth College students were arrested and jailed following a fight at a residence hall this week.

Warren County Assistant State's Attorney Sherry Lawson-Weaver says Dixon's Preston Lumzy had a piece of his ear bitten off by Steven Mitchell of Chicago Thursday at Bowers Hall.

She says Mitchell is being charged with two counts of aggravated battery. This includes a count against Mitchell for intentionally causing permanent disfigurement to Lumzy for the alleged ear-biting. Records indicate Mitchell's bond was set at $5,000-dollars yesterday. Both counts are class 3 felonies punishable of two to five years in prison.

According to reports, Lumzy has posted 10-percent of a $1,500-dollar bond for two counts of misdemeanor battery. Lumzy is accused of punching Mitchell in the head and then provoking him by choking him with both hands.

Prosecutor Lawson-Weaver says the incident appeared to be a form of horseplay before turning more serious and violent with a piece of Lumzy's ear being bitten off.

Lumzy is a freshman linebacker for the Monmouth College football team. The college's athletic website indicates he played in eleven of twelve games, was third in total tackles, and led the Fighting Scots in tackles for a loss and sacks.
