School Board Not To Change Policy
For one of the students at the Ruhl's Farm School time on the Abingdon Volleyball Team is over.

That's because the school board decided to take no action on changing the districts policy on non-enrolled students participating in extra-curricular activities.

Superintendent David Black tells WGIL there's nothing wrong with home schools but when it comes to keeping everything in line with state standards home school and public schools don't mix.

"Keeping academic integrity and keeping a curriculum in line is a struggle constantly and it's constant work it's constant articulation between grade levels and amongst grade levels to make that happen and at this case they would be basically accrediting a home school which does its own thing."

Black says it just gets to hard to tell students they have to meet certain requirements if they want to participate in extra-curricular activities and allow someone from a home school to participate when you can't say for sure they're meeting the same standards.

The Board suggested the Ruhl's Farm School talk with the new consolidated school board about their policy change request.
