New Temporary Assistant Superintendent In District 205
A former Galesburg School District administrator will be back on the job starting in January, but this time, for a temporary period.

The Galesburg School Board held a short closed-door special session yesterday, and when they came out, they hired Jim Rich as Interim Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations once Guy Cahill retires at the end of the year.

Rich served in several capacities in area schools, including as Director of Finance, Grants, and Special Programs before retiring seven years ago. He then took on a role with Carl Sandburg College that he retired from earlier this year.

Cahill, meanwhile, has said the state pension funding crisis is the reason he's retiring now. But some of his work is just getting started -- most notably the implementation of the District's Master Facilities Plan.

Speculation is that Cahill will still be involved with the district in some form to deal with the Master Facilities Plan, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.

Cahill and Superintendent Gene Denisar will be retiring in a few weeks. Denisar is being replaced by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Bart Arthur.
