United Way Closer to Goal
The Knox County United Way is getting closer to its fundraising goal for its annual campaign, and the organization's executive director is optimistic that will happen.

Ann Tucker said Friday that the United Way was at about 71 percent of its $375,000 goal, and gave some credit to big corporate donations, like around $30,000 from Knox County's largest employer, Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

Tucker tells the WGIL Evening News she'd like to wrap up the campaign Monday, but knows that won't happen.

"In a perfect world, I would love to have a celebration on December 31st that goal has been reached," Tucker said. "But, the fact of the matter is we still have a couple campaigns scheduled for January. We also do receive donations from other United Ways -- such as the Quad Cities and Peoria -- that have people that live in Knox County but work outside of Knox County."

Tucker says she thinks she'll be done by mid-January. She says prior to her arrival, it wasn't uncommon to have the annual fund drive last until March.

Tucker says her executive board has yet to determine what will happen with funds allocated for the Knox County Area Project, which shut it doors a few months ago due to a lack of state funding.
