Energy Supplier Chosen in Aggregation
Knoxville residents are one step closer to seeing a rate decrease in there electric bill.

Monday night the city council voted and approved an energy contract with energy supplier Energy Me.

The contract would lock residents participating in the energy aggregation into a rate guarantee of 4.1 cents per kilowatt hour.

The current rate for residents is 5.4 cents per kilowatt hour and Mayor Bob Johnson tells WGIL the aggregation will save residents a decent amount on their electric bill at a fixed rate for more than a year.

"Well the benefits are of course they can always opt-out if they want to, they can stay in but they're going to save considerable amount of money some where around the range of fifteen dollars a month on their energy bill and I think that's great. For the next three years, it's locked in."

The council sent out eighteen RFP's to different energy suppliers--six responded.

Council member Jim McGovern told the council his reasoning behind going with Energy Me was because the aggregation was to help residents save money on their energy bills.

The contract now goes to the council's attorney and once approved will be sent to Energy Me who'll start sending out information about the rates as well as an option to opt-out.

The Council also approved the 2012 tax levy.

Mayor Johnson says residents might see a one percent difference between last years levy and this year but for the most part the levy hasn't changed.
