Thrushwood Farms Set to Open Expansion
FIRST REPORTED 6:30am 12/9/12 A Galesburg business can finally start to expand now that a building it put up to help do that is complete.

Thrushwood Farms Quality Meats co-owner Kay Hankes says their 14,000 square foot expansion of their production facilities is set to open Monday at the earliest, pending regulatory approvals being met.

Hankes tells WGIL the expansion will have no effect whatsoever on the customer, but could have a positive effect on the other side of the business.

"A lot of people have been worried that we're going to stop doing what we have been doing, but we're going to continue to do what we've always done," Hankes said. "It's a production facility. It is for ready-to-eat products. Where we're at, we just ran out of space. So, we're moving into that building with the ready-to-eat products, and it's to serve our new customers that have been contacting us for years, and we've just not been able to serve."

Hankes says she could see easily growing out of that production facility quite quickly, but she says it's a good problem to have.

Construction began in May after the Galesburg City Council approved an appeal of the city's Overall Code Review Commission ruling that fire sprinklers would have been needed prior to operation.

Some additional jobs are expected to be added with the expansion.
