Tourism Board Looks To Reduce Size
At the Knox County Tourism Council Board meeting Tuesday afternoon the board members nominated and appointed a new Chair and Co-Chair for 2013.

Bernice Hamilton will take over next year as Board Chair and Josh Damewood will take over as Co-Chair.

The board also talked about a recommendation made by the Chamber of Commerce to reduce the number of members on the board.

Executive Director of the Chamber Steven Brody tells WGIL the Tourism board has a large member pool compared to the rest of the boards around town and there's no reason for them to have so many members.

"Our Chamber Board for example, we have 12. The City Council has seven wards and so when we see there are 16 members on the Tourism Council the thought was well that seems a little large and why is it that large."

The Chamber recommended the board look at reducing the number of people representing the business community from three to two and reduce the restaurant representation from two to one.

That didn't go over well with board members saying they felt it wasn't beneficial to reduce the number of representatives of the business community on the board.

After some discussion it was decided the Tourism Board would dissolve both restaurant positions bringing membership down to 14 with 10 voting members.

The city recreation position would become a non-voting position.

The final decision will be made by the Chamber Board at their next meeting.
