|Duane "Otto" German, age 81 of Knoxville, Illinois passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 6:26 PM at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois.
Duane was born on August 29, 1931 in Capac, Michigan, Illinois, the son of Aaron and Eileen Eldridge German. He was a graduate of Galesburg High School, Galesburg, Illinois. He married Mary Joan Oberjohnn on October 9, 1954 in Roseville, Illinois. She survives him of Knoxville.
Also surviving is his son; Roger Aaron (Stephanie Hanko) German of Phoenix, Arizona, one granddaughter: Nicole (Donovan Rippstein) German of Knoxville, two great grandchildren: Ava German and Fallon Rippstein, one step granddaughter: Jessica Hanko-Summers of Phoenix, Arizona, and one sister: Dana (Gene) Culver of Yorkville, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, David Otto German, two brothers and one sister.
He worked as a brakeman and conductor for the CB & Q Railroad, then later for Burlington Northern Railroad as a conductor, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and gardening.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home Fellowship Center in Knoxville, Illinois.
