|John S. Boydstun, 86, of Galesburg, died at 3:42 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013 in Seminary Manor.
John was born May 18, 1927 in Galesburg, the son of Charles S. and Helen (Cox) Boydstun. He married Joan Pacey on October 15, 1950 in Galesburg, after courting her since kindergarten. She preceded him in death October 16, 2012.
He is survived by two sons, John (and Lisa) Boydstun and William (and Jane) Boydstun, both of Galesburg; a daughter, Ann (and Steve) Seibert of Galesburg and seven grandchildren, Taylor, Ian, and Devon Boydstun, Providence and Grant Boydstun, and Jack and Jory Seibert. He is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kyle Joan Seibert; and his brother, Charles Boydstun.
John was raised in Galesburg and attended Galesburg High School, graduating in 1945. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1945 and served during World War II. Upon leaving the Navy he received his bachelor's degree from Knox College in 1950.
John owned and operated C.S. Boydstun Lumber Company for over 30 years. After the lumber business, he was co-owner of an insurance agency and finished his business career in real estate sales, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. He was also a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and past president of Soangetaha Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed duck hunting and was a member of Prairie Rod and Gun Club and the Vermont Gun Club. John loved spending time with his family and his dogs.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 in Linwood Cemetery. A celebration of his life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Soangetaha Country Club.
