|William J. "Bill" Henderson, 88, of Galesburg died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born May 30, 1924 in Rio, Ill., the son of William M. and Orie Irene Epperson Henderson. He married Peggy Pugh on October 24, 1947 in Monmouth, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are his two sons, Bill (Evon) Henderson of Des Moines, Iowa and Robert Henderson of Oakland, Calif.; his daughter, Jeanne Clark of Henderson, Ill.; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren and his sister-in-laws, Janet (Andy) Anderson and Rose Ann (Howard) Newton both of Rio, Ill. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nola Baker and June McCormack.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 stationed in England, Scotland, France, Ireland and California.
He graduated from Rio High School in 1943. He worked for Schuler Coal Company and Moorman Feed Company in Alpha, Ill. He later worked for the city of Galesburg, retiring in 1988. Bill was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, serving on the Honor Guard for several years.
Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jon Sibley officiating and military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Private family burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
