|Charles L. Selfridge, 75, 683 US Hwy 150E Galesburg died at 11:15 AM Monday January 11, 2010 at his home.
He was born July 10, 1934 in Galesburg the son of Robert and Alberta M. Gooch Selfridge. He married Dottie Lee Tuthill on June 9, 1954 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his former wife, close friend and mother of his three daughters Dottie "Maw" Lovell of Galesburg; three daughters Vonna (Dave) Marshall of Wataga, IL, Gay Lazzari and Cheri Hatfield both of Galesburg; a brother Robert Selfridge of Galesburg, seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a nephew Robert Selfridge and a niece Robin Fifer.
He served in the US Army for 2 years at Ft Knox KY.
Charles worked as a mechanic and was known as one of the best diesel mechanics in the area. In his earlier years he worked for the CB & Q Railroad. He followed up his career as a mechanic for many area businesses. He was looked up to by fellow workers as he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with the young and up coming mechanics. He enjoyed riding and working with Harley Davidson motorcycles. Charles graduated from Knoxville High School in 1953. He was a member of the Pacific Lodge #66 of the Masons in Knoxville for 31 years.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 AM Thursday January 14, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Karen Wakefield will officiate. Visitation will be 10:00-11:30 AM Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.
