Stegall, Leslie W.
Leslie W. Stegall, 86, 1289 Beecher Ave., Galesburg, died at 5 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2010 in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born November 26, 1923 at home in rural Victoria, the son of Forrest D. and Doris L. Mosher Stegall. He married Frances M. Ekstrand on June 27, 1948 in the Yates City Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances, a son, Larry (and Carol) Stegall of Altona, IL, a daughter, Kae (and Jim) Hankes of Galesburg, 7 grandchildren, Brian (and Jill) Stegall of Cedar Falls, IA, Amy (and Doug) Wolcott of North Liberty, IA, Ashley Lambert of Peoria, Samantha Stegall of Peoria, Doug (and Lindsey) Hankes of Galesburg, Jeff Hankes of Galesburg, and Richard Hankes of New York City., 4 great grandchildren, Alexia and Colton Wolcott, Bree Stegall, and Dana Babcock, and a brother, Dean (and Sandy) Stegall of Oneida. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Leslie was a farmer most of his life. He raised purebred Hampshire hogs and was also a grain farmer. He farmed in Knox and Henry Counties. Leslie always enjoyed farming and in later years he enjoyed catering with Thrushwood Farms Quality Meats.

He graduated from Victoria High School in 1941. He was a member of the Knox County Farm Bureau and had served on its board and was a member of the Knox County Prime Timers. Before retiring from farming, Leslie was active in the Knox and Henry County Pork Producers, Cattleman and Livestock Associations, and the Hampshire Registry.

Leslie enjoyed helping his grandchildren with livestock and encouraged them in their sports activities.

Funeral will be 1:30 PM Saturday, January 16, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. David Pyell will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 PM Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Victoria Cemetery.
