|Alice Josie Bailey 84 of Converse, TX passed away on Thursday January 14, 2010 in San Antonio, TX.
She was born May 24, 1926 in Cameron, IL the daughter of Grant G. and Mary Elsie Newman Mackey. She married Roy Smith he preceded her and she later married Austin Bailey who also preceded her.
She is survived by one son David Smith of Converse, TX; three daughters Betty (Don) Logan of Tennessee, IL, Mary (Everett) McKeown of Oshkosh, WI, and Deborah Bailey of Bartonville, IL; 10 grandchildren Bryan Smith, Daniel (Andrea) Smith, and Elizabeth Smith all of San Antonio, TX, Emily Smith of Stronghurst, IL, DawnAnn Logan and Deron (Amanda) Logan of Carthage, IL, Julie Doscher of Colchester, IL, Teresa Woolam of Blandinsville, IL, Mark McKeown (Tori Sorenson) of Madison, WI, Matt (Florence) McKeown of New Holstein, WI; 14 great grandchildren Kylee, Jordan, Mia, Brittany, Cody, Dustin, Amber, Cooper, Frida, Jack, Maggie Mae, Tyler, Tiffany, and Tyshawn; IL; three sisters Rose (Clyde) Deushane and Ruby (Ed) Marie of Peoria, IL, Margaret (Virgil) Carrington of Homer, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents brothers Harold, David, Grant, Leroy, and Ray and sisters Frances, Helen, Edna and Mary.
Alice worked on the family farm with her father and brothers as a youngster. After leaving home she had a varied work life which included employment at the Monmouth Pottery, Iowa Ammunition Plant, Wilson Meat Packing Company and many years working along side her husbands as an independent truck driver. She enjoyed baking for her friends and family and loved to share her favorite recipes. For a number of years she planted a vegetable garden, canning and storing the fruits of her labor for the cold winter months.
Funeral service will be Thursday January 21, 2010, 11:00 am at the Corman Memorial Home Roseville, IL where family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Kirkwood Cemetery.
