Prats, Edda
Edda Prats, age 70, died on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 8:33 A.M. at her residence in Galesburg, Illinois.

She was born on June 22, 1939 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The daughter of Charles Leker and Pura Platti, she married Jorge Prats on August 14, 1961 in Champaign, Illinois. Her husband and mother survive her, both reside in Galesburg, Illinois.

Also surviving are her children, Jordi (Joanne) Prats of Glendale, Missouri; Laura (Mark) Prats-Aschheim of Santa Clara, California; and John Prats of Galesburg, Illinois; her grandchildren, Christopher Coombs; Emma Prats; Eliana Aschheim and Livia Aschheim; two great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Jorge Coombs; and her siblings, Aldo (Donna) Leker of Springfield, Missouri; and Elaine Dockery of Iowa City, Iowa. She will also be missed by many other close relatives in Puerto Rico, the U.S. and Europe. She was preceded in death by her father.

She was raised in San German, Puerto Rico and Lamar, Missouri. She graduated from Southwest Missouri State College and later earned two Masters Degrees, one in Spanish from the University of Illinois and one in Counseling from Western Illinois University. She was a counselor at Carl Sandburg Community College, then the Director of Testing at Kankakee Community College for 17 years where she retired.

She sang in the Corpus Christi Choir in Galesburg, Illinois for many years and more recently joined Eliot Unitarian Chapel in Kirkwood, Missouri. She also played trombone in the New Horizons and Kankakee Municipal Bands in Kankakee, Illinois and volunteered at the Field Museum in Chicago.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 PM, Rev. Roger Mohr officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Louis Ovarian Cancer Awareness or the Charity of the Donor's Choice. Online memories and anecdotes may be left at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhomes.com.
