|Kelli Joanne Johnson-Smith, 44, of 1473 Grand Avenue, Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, died Friday morning, January 22, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 31, 1965 at OSF Saint Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, the daughter of Edward "Dan" and Barrie A. (Dunlap) Johnson. She married Jerry K. Smith.
Kelli is survived by her daughter, Cassidy Jolynn Smith at home; her mother, Barrie Schaffer of Abingdon; her father, Dan Johnson of Abingdon; her siblings, Mark D. (and Chrystal) Johnson of Macomb, Jennifer (and Matt) Schaffer-Foist in California and Dana (and Shawn) Kennett of Knoxville; her special friend, Dave McCune; her maternal grandfather Lyle Dunlap of RR Galesburg; her paternal grandmother, Maxine Collins of Abingdon; her aunts, Kristy Austin, Heather Rice and Nancy Pieper, three nieces, three nephews and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Helen Dunlap, her paternal grandfather, Fred Johnson and a sister-in-law, Lisa Johnson.
Kelli grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1983. She then attended Robert Morris College in Carthage, graduating in 1985. She was a 911 dispatcher for the city of Galesburg for 10 years. Her hobbies included gardening and spending time with her daughter.
To celebrate her life, a service will be at 11:00 am Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
