|James Wendell Paulsgrove, age 94, of 311 East Simmons Street, Galesburg, Illinois formerly of Knoxville, Illinois died at 1:05 A.M. on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at his home in Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born March 9, 1915 in Abingdon, Illinois, the son of James R. and Alta Hatch Paulsgrove. He attended the country Earl Elementary School east of Abingdon for eight years and graduated from Sparta Township High School in Wataga, Illinois in 1933. He attended the Kewanee Business College completing the 15-month course.
He left Beatrice Meadow Gold Dairy in Galesburg, Illinois where he was employed in the office on January 21, 1941 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps, Finance Department at Scott Field, Illinois. He met and married Doris M. Griggs on November 1, 1941. He was separated from the Service early in 1946 having reached the rank of Captain. In November 1950 he was called to active duty and serviced for two years during the Korean Engagement. He returned to his employment in the office of Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) (Gale Products) where he retired in September 1975.
For many years he has been a member of the Knoxville Christian Church, served 12 years on the Knoxville School Board, 20 years on the Knoxville Council of Churches, lifetime member of the American Legion, serving as Chaplain in the Knoxville Post for 15 years, a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #880 and a former member of the Gale Retires Club. For many years he and his wife belonged to the Square Dance Club, the Grand Squares, and also a former member of the Eagles Lodge and the Knox County Farm Bureau. At one time he served on the Gilson Volunteer Fire Department and was a Little League Baseball Manager for five years.
He leaves his wife of 68 years; two sons, John (Kristin) Paulsgrove of Rockford, Illinois and Tom (Cindy) Paulsgrove of Priest River, Idaho; one daughter, Peggy (Kim) Anglin of Durham, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Julia, Beth, and Neal Anglin, Megan and Marissa Paulsgrove, and Sarah (Andrew) Streeter; three great grandchildren, Madison Paulsgrove, Mason Haney, and Aiden Smith; two sisters, Helen Cross of Galesburg, Illinois and Dorothy St. George of Galesburg, Illinois and two brothers, Max (Molly) Paulsgrove of Aledo, Illinois and Glenn (Lucille) Paulsgrove of Galesburg, Illinois. His parents and one sister: Garnet Jones preceded him in death.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Knoxville, Illinois with Visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. Rev. David Shreeves officiating. Burial in Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois.
