Brown, Betty Jean
Betty Jean Brown, 85 of Monmouth, formerly of Alexis died at 9:50 A.M. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.

She was born Dec. 28, 1924 in Scotland, IN the daughter of Jesse and Daisy (Stevens) Britton. She was raised and educated in Indiana and Illinois.

Betty married Burnice LeRoy Brown in Aledo, IL on March 4, 1947 and he died March 24, 1982.

Betty farmed with her husband and worked at the Monmouth Hospital.

She was an active member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church and worked with the youth of the church for many years. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women as well as an auxiliary member of both Community Memorial Hospital and OSF Holy Family Medical Center.

She enjoyed fishing, watching Indiana basketball along with local high school basketball, playing cards, gardening and canning. She mostly enjoyed being with her grandchildren and time spent with her family.

Survivors include her 4 sons, Bernard (Judy) Brown of Kirkwood, Ron (Diane) Brown of North Henderson, Gary (Kathy) Brown and Steve (Linda Murphy) Brown both of Galesburg; 3 daughters, Diane (Randy) Piper of Galesburg, Donna Brown of Macomb, IL and Shirley Hohner of Tampa FL; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Funeral services will be 10:30 Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Norwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Agnes Brady officiating. Burial will be in Norwood Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where her family will be present from 5:00-7:00 P.M.
