Fredrick D. English, 84, of Monmouth, died at 12:10 A.M. Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Community Care Center of Monmouth.
He was born September 5, 1925 in Rome, Iowa the son of David Cressie and Mina Leora (Ortery) English. He was raised and educated in Monmouth and attended Woodruff High School in Peoria.
Fred served with the United States Marines Corp during World War II in the Pacific, Okinawa and China.
Fred married Pauline Gott, Dee Earle and later Sandra Yates.
Upon his discharge form the Marines Fred worked construction in Guam and back in the States. He also worked as a bartender, at a quicksilver mine and as a heavy equipment operator all in California. He later worked as a factory foreman in Harvard, IL.
Fred was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Surviving family include his two daughters, Susan (Ed) English-Zych of Lewisburg, PA, Sheryl English and step-son, Robert Canini both of Santa Barbara, CA; granddaughters, Ali Zych and Rebecca Zych both of Lewisburg, PA; two sisters, Ida Marie (Carrol) Ryner and Dorothy (Harold) Carnes both of Monmouth; family friend, Kim Roberts of Monmouth; many nieces nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bill English, Gene English, Henry "Si" English and Bob English; one sister, Winnie Numbers
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tues, Feb 2, 2010 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. John Irwin of the Heritage Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will military honors will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday morning at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel where his family will be present one hour prior to the services.
