|Donald W. McDowell age 71 of Woodhull, Il died Friday January 29, 2010 in his home.
Memorial services are 7:00 PM Tuesday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Private burial is at a later date. Visitation is 3:00 PM until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home where memorials may be left to Clover Township Fire Department or Tri-County Ambulance service. He was born December 2, 1938 in Galesburg, Il a son of Wayne and Dorothy Stickle McDowell. He graduated from AlWood High School and married Sandra A. Reedy December 27, 1957 in Corinth, MS.
Don was a self-employed carpenter in the Woodhull area for over 30 years, a career he truly enjoyed. He served two terms on the Woodhull Village Board and was a member of the Clover Township Fire Department for 16 years, serving seven years as Fire Chief.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening. For many years he coached Boys Little League and Girls softball and could even be found in his later years playing ball with the neighborhood kids. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching sports.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra, 3 daughters, Donna (Bill) Metzler, Dena (Mark Mueller) Lindquist all of Orion, Barb (Gene) Colburn of Alpha, 2 sons, Doog (Lisa) McDowell of Woodhull, Mike (Jennifer) McDowell of Milan, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Ruby (Joe) Graves of Galesburg, Marth (Jimmie) Johnson of Altona, Il, 1 brother Bob (Susan) McDowell of Phoenix, AZ. several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
