|Thomas Louis Johnston, age 82, of Knoxville, Illinois, died at 8:47 P.M. on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on January 8, 1928 in Elmwood, Illinois, the son of Charles Reynolds and Lucy Jepson Johnston. He married Norma Jean Johnston on August 31, 1949 in Kahoka, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2010.
Surviving are two daughters, Lori Derham of Peoria Heights, Illinois and Susi Johnston of Joy, Illinois; three sons, Mike Johnston of Knoxville, Illinois, Jim (Shirley) Johnston of Galesburg, Illinois and Steve (Peggy) Johnston of Gulfport, Mississippi; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, JoAnn White of Canton, Illinois and Margery Grose of Peoria, Illinois and one brother, Jerry Jepson of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Elmore, Edward and Dave and two sisters: Ann and Katherine.
He served in the United State Navy and was on shore patrol. He worked for Handy Electric in Knoxville, Illinois and then Wicks in Galesburg, Illinois for 26 years. He was a member of the Harry Philblad American Legion Post # 749 of Knoxville, Illinois for 49 years where he was past commander. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Knoxville Fire Protection District for 20 years.
Cremation Rites will be accorded.
There will be no services. Memorials may be made to the family. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois in charge of arrangements.
