|Jack H. McCurry, 82, of Abingdon died at 11:20 pm Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born on October 29, 1928 in Johnson City, Tennessee, the son of Joshua Rush and Etta Mae (Clarke) McCurry. He married Laura G. Stonesifer on December 28, 1952 in Georgia.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Laura; two sons, Mark S. (and Jeannie) McCurry and Chris M. (and Sherie) McCurry all of Abingdon; one daughter, Lisa A. (and Mike) Aitken of New Port Richey, Florida; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Hoss of Kingston, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons-Jeffrey L. McCurry on February 24, 1998 and Jack A. McCurry on April 7, 1998, two brothers and two sisters.
He graduated from Science Hill High School in Johnson City in 1946. He then attended East Tennessee State University. He worked in Plumbing Sales for Briggs Manufacturing for 40 years, retiring in April of 1993. He had lived in Johnson City, TN, Cincinnati, OH, Detroit, MI, Monroe, NC, New Port Richey, FL and Abingdon, IL.
He was a member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge #185. His hobbies included playing golf and coin collecting.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday at the chapel.
