Klapp, William S.
William S. "Bill" Klapp, 73, of 1731 Florence Ave., Galesburg, died at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born January 2, 1938 in Galesburg, the son of Earl and Pauline Johnson Klapp. He married Carole S. Burger on March 24, 1956 in East Moline, Ill.

He is survived by his wife, Carole, two sons, William E. (and Julie) Klapp of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and David L. Klapp of Galesburg, a daughter, Diana (and Mike) Whitson of Galesburg, three grandchildren, Nikki Klapp, Jeremy Klapp, and Christina Klapp, three great grandchildren, Cierra, Rylee, and Preston, three brothers, Ed (and Marilyn) Klapp of East Galesburg, Rev. Bruce (and Becky) Klapp of Dows, Iowa, and Max Klapp of Waterloo, Iowa, and four sisters, Donna King of Waterloo, Sandy (and Robert) OConnor of Marion, Iowa, Tonya (and Duane) Ogg of Creve Coeur, Mo., and Delores (and Larry) Alexander of Altoona, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Bill worked at the former Admiral/Maytag Corporation as a plant superintendent for 18 years. After Maytag, he and his son, David were co owners of The Auto Wizard and then he was a district manager of Genie Temp Services. He retired in 2000. He attended high school in Waterloo.

Bill loved to play golf and spending time with his family. He played guitar and sang with the bands, The Mistys, The Landmarks, and Annie and the Orphans.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 28, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. David Parker will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
