S. Jean Gustafson, age 85, of Knoxville, Illinois, died at 4:58 P.M. on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on April 3, 1925 in Dahinda, Illinois, the daughter of Tom and Stella Lorrance Dawson. She married Robert E. Gustafson on October 25, 1944 in Dahinda, Illinois. He survives of Knoxville, Illinois.
Also surviving are one daughter, Bobbi (Steve) Newby of Texas; one son, David R. (Sandy) Gustafson of Missouri; grandchildren, Sarah M. Gustafson, Patrick J. Newby, Amy J. Gustafson and Brian P. Newby; great granddaughter, Natalie Ann Newby and one sister, Helen Benson of Oneida, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.
She was reared and educated in Dahinda and Williamsfield, Illinois graduating from the Williamsfield High School. She attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. She was a homemaker and legal secretary for Nelson, Gustafson and Blake Attorneys in Galesburg, Illinois for 12 years. She attended the Community of Christ Church in Galesburg, Illinois and served as lay person for the priest and youth leader of her church. She was a member of the Legal Secretary's Association of Galesburg, Illinois; active in the Spoon-n-Spool 4-H Girls Club; Appleton PTA; and Walnut Street Cookie Club in Knoxville, Illinois.
Cremation Rites will be accorded.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois with Visitation beginning at 12:00 Noon. David Gustafson and Steve Newby officiating. Inurnment in Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Community of Christ Church in Galesburg, Illinois.
