James E. Stanley, Sr., 72, of Galesburg died at 9:14 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2012 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born December 18, 1939 in Mayflower, Ark., the son of Nathaniel and Rozzie Howard Stanley. He had been married to Lena Stanley, Edith Bird, and Elsie Smith. He is survived by three sons, Carlos Stanley of Galesburg and Neithan (and Gillian) Stanley and Romando Stanley, both of Portland, Ore.; three daughters, Darlena (and Rev. Anthony) Sibley of Galesburg, Tonya (and Harrison) Scott of Westland, Mich., and Nicole Camara of Portland; 18 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Stanley of Conway, Ark.; four sisters, Iva Steward of Galesburg, Marvel French of Macomb, Ill., Maureace Taylor of Edmond, Okla., and Debra Harvey of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Jr.; and two brothers, Joe Stanley and Clee Stanley.
James worked in construction and was a mechanic by hobby. He served in the United States Army Reserves.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2012 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. There will be no service.
