|Margarita "Rita" Windom, 83, formerly of 853 Knox Road 1850N, Galesburg, Ill. died at 8:46 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 in her home at The Kensington.
She was born August 23, 1928 in Aurora, Ill., the daughter of Mike and Petra Garcia Pena. She married Bernard F. Windom Sr. on February 10, 1952 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2005.
She is survived by two sons, Preston (and Janet) Windom of Canton, Ill. and Bernard (Beth) Windom Jr. of Galesburg; two daughters, Vicki (and Jeffrey) Anderson of Avon, Ill. and Pamela (and Daryl) Cox of Gilson, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mercedes Clark of Sandwich, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Sean Mackey, three sisters and two brothers.
Margarita worked for Gale Products for 10 years, then was a computer operator at Knox College for 30 years before retiring. She was raised in Leland, Ill., where she graduated from Leland High School in 1947. She had lived in the Galesburg area since 1950. Margarita was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with her family. She helped with activities at the Kensington. She was very fond of her flowers and loved gardening.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ron Scarlett officiating. There will be no visitation.
