|Carl O. Hamilton, 84, of Galesburg, died at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 in Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Ill.
He was born August 31, 1927 in Bonne Terre, Mo. the son of Howard and Dora May Fugate Hamilton. He married Caroline C. Hites in Galesburg on March 21, 1948. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2006.
He is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Larry) Piper of Belleville, Ill. and Marilyn (Randy) Hambleton of North Henderson, Ill.; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, four sisters and a granddaughter.
Carl served in the US Army from 1945-1947 during WWII stationed in the South Pacific.
He worked as a switchman for the former CB & Q, now Burlington Northern Railroad for 46 years, retiring in 1988. He was a 50+ year member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, where he also served on the Honor Guard and was a member of the 40/8 Club.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Rev.
