|Martin Moon, age 80, of Knoxville, died at 5:22 am Sunday, January 8, 2012 at his home.
He was born on August 6, 1931 in Hermon, the son of Seaton and M. Blanche (Stegall) Moon.
Martin is survived by his companion, Barbara Stathis, one daughter, Stacy Moon of Arlington Heights; two sons, Matthew Moon of Arlington Heights and Michael Moon of Fife, Washington; one grandson, Hunter; two brothers, Seaton (and Betty) Moon of Hermon and Louis Moon of Abingdon; two sisters, Anita White of Abingdon and Alice (and Paul) Sharp of Mendota.
He graduated from Avon High School in 1949 and later from Illinois State University in 1954. He served in the Marine Corps for three years and was stationed in Japan. He worked as a high school Principal for over 30 years, last working for the Palatine School District #15 for 28 years retiring in 1987. He was of the Catholic faith. His hobbies included hunting, studying history, working on older cars with a passion for VW's and spending time with his family.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Father William Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Wednesday at the chapel.
