Eldert. Maurice M.
Maurice Matthew Eldert, 67, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 8:34 PM Thursday, January 12, 2012 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born on January 25, 1044 in Galesburg to Arvid V. and Naomi Haptonstall Eldert. He married E. Kristine Johann on September 1, 1967 in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Kristine; two daughters, Emily (and Wil Hayes) of Monmouth, Ill. and Amy K. Eldert of Galesburg; a brother Dennis J. Eldert of Galesburg; a sister in law, Jennifer Eldert of Danforth, Ill.; a granddaughter, Brianna M. Hayes and nieces and nephews.

Maurice was a 1962 graduate of Galesburg High School and a 1989 graduate from Western Illinois University. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1962 and served for eight years. He served Embassy Duty at the United States Embassy in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from 1963 to 1965. He was in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967 and then returned in 1972. He then served 12 years in the United States Air Force. He retired from military service in 1983. He then worked 16 years for the Illinois Department of Corrections, retiring from there in 2002. He then drove a school bus for CUSD#205 for 5 ½ years which he enjoyed very much.

He was a member of the Covenant Church in Galesburg.

Funeral services will be 1:00PM Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Covenant Church with Rev. Tom Ek officiating. Military honors by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 will follow the services at church, also the State of Illinois Honor Guard will be present. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00PM Monday, January 16, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Covenant Church.
