|Charles W. "Charlie" Huston, 68, of Macomb passed away at 8:34 AM Saturday December 31, 2011 at McDonough District Hospital. He was born January 21, 1943 in Macomb to Willie Alfonso and Ruby Edna Yvonne (McGruder) Huston. He married Pat A. Blickenstaff on November 30, 1962 in Macomb. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons Jeffrey W. (Charleen) Huston and Neil B. (Stephanie) Huston both of Macomb; 7 Grandchildren Chad Cox, Tevin and Kiara Huston, Justin, Jalen, Jamal and Cheyenne Huston; 3 Great Grandchildren Elijah Cox, Miles Cox and Jabari Huston; two brothers Ronnie (Dee) Huston of Macomb and Mike (Barb) Huston of Springfield, MO; two sisters Debbie and Janice Huston both of Macomb. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Tony Huston and one sister Amber Huston.
Charles graduated from Macomb High School in 1962. He worked for Gale Products of Galesburg, IL for 20 years, and later worked for the City of Macomb until his retirement. He was a member of the Macomb Masonic Lodge No. 17 and Shiners International. Charles visited the Shiners Hospital in Chicago many times presenting them with proceeds raised from an annual ASA Softball tournament held in the Quad Cities. He was a longtime sports official for football, basketball, baseball and softball including officiating an Illinois State Basketball Championship game as well as umpiring an Olympic Team Softball game held in Bloomington, IL. He was inducted into the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame in 2007. Charles enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball for many years and was active in coaching youth sports. He was a diehard Cubs fan and enjoyed attending local sporting events.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday January 5, 2012 at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home where visitation will be Wednesday January 4, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with Masonic Services being held at 7:00 PM. The Elder Raleigh L. Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Macomb Masonic Lodge No. 17 or to the donor's choice.
