Jennings, Gary E.
Gary E. "Sheen" Jennings, 69 of Avon passed away Friday, January 20, 2012 at Prairie City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Prairie City.

Gary was born June 3, 1942 in Avon to Ross and Edith (Hubble) Jennings. He married Laura Markley on August 14, 1971 in Galesburg, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; sons Thomas (Ken Slater) and Brian (Lannette) of Avon; grandchildren, Briar and Brenna Jennings and Ryan and Ashley Slater; one sister Harriet Horn of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, and one brother Michael Jennings of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Jennings and sister Charlotte Sloan.

Gary graduated from Avon High School in 1961. He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381 in Abingdon.

Gary owned and operated Jennings Coin Laundry in Abingdon for fifteen years. He retired from the BNSF Railroad as a Carman on June 30, 2003 and then worked for two years as a maintenance worker at Prairie City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Cremation rites have accorded. A Celebration of Life (Visitation) will be held 3:00 - 5:00 PM on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Center in Knoxville, Illinois. Memorial may be made to the residents' fund at the Prairie City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Prairie City, Illinois.
