Stalker, Velma M.
Velma M. Stalker, 89, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 11:38 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

She was born October 21, 1922 in Marietta, Ill., the daughter of Joseph and Vitula Osborn Winkler. She married Russell Stalker on September 30, 1942 in Chicago. They moved to Avon, Ill., where they lived until Russell's death in 1981. She then moved to Galesburg.
She is survived by a son, Stephen R. (and Betty) Stalker of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Martin (and Alondra) Ravira Jr., Candi Wegner, Cherri (and George) Pappas, and Trisha Stalker; three great granddaughters, Carolyn Ravira, Alexa Pappas, and Anastasia Pappas; two brothers, Joel Winkler and Richard Winkler; a sister-in-law, Betty Stalker of Peru, Ill.; and a friend and caregiver, Jan Swanson of Galesburg. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carol Rivera in 1985; three sisters; a half sister; and a half brother.

Velma was a homemaker. She graduated from Milledgeville High School in 1940. She was of the Baptist faith.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, LaSalle, Ill. Rev. Wesley Waddle will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors of Galesburg is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
