|Michael E. Marks, age 69 of Abingdon, died Saturday morning, January 28, 2012 at home.
He was born on May 2, 1942 in Galesburg, the son of E. Carroll and Genevieve (Uhlmann) Marks. He married Fay Fredrickson on May 4, 1963 in Abingdon. He later married Peggy Hale on April 4, 1984 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is one son, Brad (and Janet) Marks of Germantown Hills; one daughter, Alexandra Marks of Chicago; three grandchildren, Allyson Marks, Holden and Maxwell Clark; one brother, C. Lee (and Betty Jo) Marks of RR Galesburg and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mike had lived in the Abingdon area most of his life. He had also lived in Yorkville and Washington, Illinois. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1960 and attended Western Illinois University and an auctioneer school in Indiana. He had worked as a farmer, an insurance adjuster, a laborer at Caterpillar and at ABSCO Battery in Yorkville. He owned and operated DC Service & Sales in Abingdon since 1983 and was an auctioneer from 1964 to 2007. He was a member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge #185 and past master and secretary of the lodge. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, bird watcher, pickle maker. He was an avid card player and devoted grandfather.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel with Masonic Rites at 7:00 pm. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service.
