Mason, Mary Elizabeth
Mary Elizabeth Mason, 86, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 7:36 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at the home of her daughter.

She was born on August 1, 1925 in Vienna, Ill. to Lacy and Mary Shelton Pettifurd. She married Alden Becker in Galesburg on December 25, 1946. She then married Keith Mason in Galesburg on January 1, 1962. He preceded her in death.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Karen E. (and Dennis) Kistler of Galesburg; one son, M. Kurt Becker of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Heather (and Dan) Fox and Brian (and Beth) Clark; one step-grandson, Dustin (and Nicke) Kistler; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia (and Gary) Dalegowski; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, a brother and two sisters.

Mary graduated from 8th grade at the Murrie School near Simpson, Ill. She then earned her GED in Galesburg.

She worked for Gale Products for 11 years, Wonder Bread for 5 years, Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 5 years, OSF St. Mary Medical Center for 9 years and the Galesburg Foot Clinic.
Mary spent her life volunteering to help others. She was involved with Teen Court, TRIAD, the American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, the Bethel White Shrine, AARP, the Appleton Country Club and the Forty & Eight. She held office in all the organizations at some time. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1947 and was active within many of its areas.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Melva England officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will follow the services. Memorials may be made to her Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.
